Text 6 Apr American Classics

When I think of classic American Beauty and style Lauren Hutton comes to mind.  Her ease and effortless approach in the 70’s has been emulated for the past 30+ years.  I wanted to highlight pieces that will remain as classic as Lauren Hutton.  These classics are tailored and gender neutral and give the feeling of effortless cool that every girl wants to have.  They are the pieces that represent the tomboy in all of us and give us a sense of power and edge.

I wanted to show a few outfits that we currently have at Stella that give a nod to Lauren Hutton’s chic tomboy style.

Text 30 Mar Nude Nude Everywhere!

A color that is in every magazine and in just about every style is nude. When I think of nude I think of soft milky pinks, it is such a strong neutral for spring. Other prevalent neutrals are soft taupe, creams, peach, khaki, and soft grey.  Nude is so beautiful on anyone with a tan or color.  If you are fortunate to have either of the two after this long and harsh winter please incorporate nude into your wardrobe!  You will not only look radiant but every woman who cannot wear it will notice and probabIy envy you.  I love it on nails and lips, but it is a trend that has evolved from make-up and nail polish to shoes and clothing.

Text 27 Mar Lets Talk Lucite!

Definition: Lucite is a resin created by DuPont in 1937. It was mostly used for jewelry because it was inexpensive and easy to work with in molding and carving. Can be manufactured in most colors and can run from opaque to transparent.

Its futuristic, edgy and fun to me:)

The recent looks I have seen on spring runway range from large bauble necklaces like this one from Michael Kors:

It a bold statement! He also has this beautiful cuff that I love.

Lucite has continued to be a hit with all fashionista’s! It has expanded, of course, into shoes and furniture as well. These shoes from Stella McCartney are a lot of fun too. Love that she did the nude web for the upper.

However you choose to work this beautiful trend you will sure to impress!!

Text 23 Mar I heart floral

When I think of spring I think of my favorite floral dresses.  These are the pieces in my wardrobe that I feel the most feminine and pretty wearing.  There are so many wonderful floral prints out this spring.

One particular dress stands out in my head today and its in Zac Posens new line for Target.

 Floral Braocade dress $79.99

I wanted to highlight this particular dress because it is fashion forward, affordable, and reachable.  His line hits Target on the 25th of April and I am sure this one will sell fast!  So ladies if you do not have a favorite floral dress for Spring- here is your chance!  I guarantee you will instantly feel pretty.

Text 18 Mar Favorite Dress!

Favorite dress in the store right now!

The colors are beautiful and it has this great built-in corset. Would look so cute with bright pumps or nude wedges.

Its a BB Dakota dress and it is going for 80.00, and going fast!

Text 16 Mar Pretty Underpinnings

I have been seeing the most adorable lingerie sets and have to wonder how many ladies out there actually splurge on them?  Here at Stella, Sheilah and I have mulled over the idea of bringing cute underpinnings as another key piece of merchandise.  One particular brand we see at every trade show is Spreegirl.  They have unique sets that would compliment the store.  Here are a few of their looks.

Most of their boyshorts retail for around $18 and the complimentary tops/bras are around $25.  So my question is…. how many of our customers would spend $40 to $50 on a lingerie set?  My theory has always been that if there was a dress for $15-$20 more our Stella girls would go for the dress.  Am I right?  Or should we think about getting some sets?

Text 12 Mar Meryl Streep in Out of Africa

It is a love story that frequents my thoughts often. Its a love story not just between Karen and Denis (Meryl Streep and Robert Redford), it tells the story of her love of Africa, love of Farah (her servant). It is a deeply stirring movie. The Cinematography is truly amazing.

I have watched this movie again and again over the years and it continues to cause different emotions and thoughts in me each time. Karen is courageous, independent, smart, beautiful and vulnerable. A true woman in my eyes. And Meryl Streep portrays her character flawlessly.

Each time I watch it I also appreciate the costume worn throughout the film. Here are some of my favorite outfits she wore:

Her style was feminine, functional and sexy. Very fashion forward in my eyes for that time.

And of course the ultimate scene when Dennis is washing Karen’s hair!!

It just doesn’t get any better than that.

I recommend this movie to all women! It is breathtaking. ENJOY!

Text 11 Mar 1 note Denim everywhere…

I am seeing the ads, hearing the buzz but not sure what to make of this look?
Denim is appearing everywhere, shoes, accessories, vests, skirts and of course jeans.  I have been noticing this jean look in a lot of ads, Guess (the one below) and Express. Hello 80’s!

Anything made out of denim appears to be spot on right now. Not 100% but think I could rock the denim wedges!!

Text 8 Mar My New Favorite outfit at Stella!

This is the perfect spring outfit for a date!  Just edgy enough with the racerback detail of the tank and the frilly print of the skirt gives it a bit of femininity.  The hat adds another texture and a touch of menswear which is so in right now.

Text 8 Mar Big Sexy Hair is Back!

Cant wait to try out the new voluminous hairstyles I am seeing in the spring magazines.  These styles pay tribute to some of my favorite style icons.  Bridgette Bardot and Rachel Welch had big bouncy curls and were the sexpots of the 60’s and 70’s.

To get these bouncy curls it takes a little bit of product but the finished look is fresh and will bring out your inner screen siren.  My hair is fine so I like to use the Bumble and Bumble thickening spray along with John Frieda Dream Curls.  I use the two products together on damp hair then dry with a diffuser.  Follow with a big barrel curling iron for soft and bouncy curls.  thickening hairsprayFrizz-Ease® Dream Curls® Curl-Perfecting Spray

Chloe’  ads are some of my absolute favorites and I think they have modernized the big hair of the 60’s and 70’s in their spring 2010 ads.  Here are a couple shots!
